Full Moon Supermoon

The Full Moon/Supermoon this weekend will be exact on Saturday, October 15 at 10:23 pm, MDT, at 23 degrees of Aries. We are already feeling its energies and its effects could continue through October 19.

This Full moon is likely to be a doozy. Here is why:

(1) The Moon is very closely conjunct Uranus in Aries (within one degree) which also means the Sun is opposite Uranus. Thus this Full Moon will be strongly influenced by Uranus. The energies of Uranus bring change, unpredictability, disruption and headstrong actions. The fiery sign of Aries represents action, energy and assertiveness. Uranus can bring liberation and freedom, but it also can bring upsets and turmoil. Aries can bring courage and drive, but it also can manifest as anger and impulsiveness. Add the emotions of a full moon and we can expect fireworks.

(2) The moon will be conjunct the dwarf planet Eris, which is also conjunct Uranus. When we become aware of a planet, its discovery coincides with previous subconscious or buried energies becoming more conscious and available to us. We are just beginning to learn about Eris and it will be many years of observation to understand its energies. But we can start with the Eris myths. Eris is generally known as the sister of Ares and the Greek goddess of strife and discord. One particular myth stands out and seems particularly relevant to current events: The goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite were all invited to a huge wedding celebration, but Eris was not invited because of her ugliness and her bad temperament. This enraged her and she got her revenge by anonymously throwing a golden apple into the party that said “for the fairest one”. Of course all the goddesses wanted to be the fairest one. Zeus appointed Paris, the Prince of Troy, to choose the winner. Hera, Athena and Aphrodite entered a fierce competition to prove who was the prettiest. They went so far as to parade around naked and also tried to bribe Paris. Hera offered political power, Athena offered infinite wisdom, but Aphrodite offered him Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris chose Helen, which made Aphrodite the winner. It also led to the Trojan War and the devastation of Troy. Thus Eris had her vengeance.

Each planet has a positive side and a negative side. At this point we can’t say what the Eris energies really are. We can only observe and see what unfolds as time goes by. However, we can draw some parallels between the Eris myth and the firestorm that has erupted in the past five days to the video of Donald Trump talking about women. His comments tapped into something deeply emotional, no matter which “side” you may be on. His “rating” of women, the way he speaks about women and even his fame as the owner of the Miss Universe Pageant tie in with above myth. Perhaps a deep well of female fury is starting to open up in a more conscious way. It does seem that the energies of Eris could be playing a very strong role in this time in general and particularly in this Full Moon. (I will be speaking much more about Eris at my event on October 22. See event information below.)

(3) Since the Full Moon is in Aries, we want to look at the ruler of Aries, Mars, in the full moon chart to gain more insight. Mars is the warrior and shows how the fight or flight energy is likely to be expressed. Mars is in Capricorn and is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. Capricorn is the sign of “being in charge and making things happen”. Pluto rules transformation and intensity. Mars and Pluto joining together indicate intense and powerful action that may be extreme. In addition, Mars and Pluto are in a conflicting aspect (square) to Mercury and Jupiter in the reasonable and harmony seeking sign of Libra. Mercury rules communication and Jupiter rules expansion. Heated communications could erupt into something bigger. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and these energies will be kept under control and used productively.

(4) Add on top of the above – This Full Moon is a SuperMoon which gives it extra strength!

To say this is a time of strong energies is an understatement. Even though it is a challenging time, it is also a time when we can make changes in our lives and liberate ourselves in some surprising ways. We can shake off the doldrums and feel more energized. Be aware of your own strength and capabilities. Be calm and confident. Send out loving energy and know all is unfolding as it should.

Much Love to All, Judy
